If only I knew what I was getting myself into when Samhaoir ((pronounced “Summer”) 500daysofsamhaoir.wordpress.com) asked me “Do you want to come to U Haul with me to get cardboard boxes with me for Cami’s birthday present?”
Alright, this is a great time to give all of you some background information: Samhaoir is pretty insane, and she makes every day more interesting, and sometimes, just plain weird. Now, I can actually post this on my blog now, because the birthday present was already, well… presented, since today was Cami’s birthday! Happy Quinceañera, chica! You’re one of the most sweetest, goofiest, beautiful girls I know, inside and out, and I hope you had a wonderful first-birthday-at-TGS!
To carry on with the story (before I get too sappy, and cheese-covered like I always get), Samhaoir wanted to get tall, 1.5 x 0.5 x 0.5m boxes that were big enough to fit two teenage boys… Can you guess why?
In case it wasn’t too obvious, Cameron and Willem were going to burst out of the box, and dance for Cami. I will admit, Samhaoir is crazy, but she’s an awesome friend. She bent over backwards to make this happen. Man, I wish my birthday was later in the school year, so she got to know me better before it came around
We made our commute to Mass Ave to get these huge shipping boxes, and she purchased the largest one they had. Go big or go home, I suppose! Now, this box could only be folded and flattened to an extent, and I had no idea that we had to make it back to our residence carrying a 1.5m x 1m piece of cardboard. I’m pretty sure Samhaoir didn’t tell me about this part, partly because she didn’t really think that through, herself, and partly because it’s easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission!
Naw, I would have done it anyways! I got Cami a present too, and $3 shoes at Payless. America is a wonderful place. I got her a potted flower plant, because cut flowers die much more quickly, and I wanted Cami to have something a bit more permanent (like our friendship!)
I also got her a purple stuffed bunny because… Well… Who doesn’t love the fluffy creature?
Anyways, Samhaoir and I had a lot of fun getting it across the street and on the bus (and an equal amount of strange stares from the Bostonian community). We carried it the “tall” way, though, which was an awful idea, because it kept slipping out of our hands, which were freezing. We eventually had the sense to carry it flat (like a tabletop), which was so much easier, and we kept on asking each other “why didn’t we carry it like this in the first place!?“
Another thing that we didn’t really think through: the nearest stop from Mass Ave to our residence is about a 15 minute walk away. Oh mothballs…
We eventually get to the residence after our arms are about to fall off, and backs about to abandon us for someone who is nicer to them. Getting someone to distract Cami as the boys carry the boxes upstairs was simple enough.
All that hard work was worth seeing Cami freak out at the unexpected gift. I could not have found a better way to spend my Friday night if I tried!

that sounds like an awesome birthday surprise – any video of the dance to share!?
Haha not appropriate to post online
Yuan Yuan…I love you <3 You're an amazing blogger and I am forever jealous. Thanks for helping me carry the boxes. I couldn't have done it without you.
